“Our website hasn’t scaled well and it feels a little slow, unresponsive, and unwieldy."

My Approach

  • I worked directly with the client to facilitate a design discussion. I led the client through a questionnaire to gather information about their target audience, website goals, and design preferences. This insightful session formed the foundation for the rest of the design process.

  • I started to research best practices on Baymard and Nielsen Norman to inform my design decisions and create a user-friendly experience.

In addition, I completed a competitive analysis to analyze other plant b2b websites that have a quick order page. I noticed these pages had similar features and took note of this.

  • I created low-fidelity wireframes in Figma to create a new layout for the quick order page. I used my insights from the competitive analysis and combined them with the client's request.

I presented this to the Director of Operations and the design went through four rounds of revisions. This was to ensure the design was feasible to develop and easy to use.

  • Once the design was approved by the Director of Operations, I created high-fidelity wireframes to show the client's branding. I used their font and introduced a new icon set since the client previously did not use a distinct icon library.

  • The plant b2b owner loved the designs and approved it. I handed off my designs to the developers by providing them with my Figma file. The file includes the user research I completed, previous rounds of revisions, and the approved designs. I organized these into different pages with clear names.

Conclusion

Redesigning this company’s quick order page was a wonderful experience where I refined my skills in user interface design, user research, and prototyping. The owner of the plant b2b business loved the designs I presented and it is currently being developed. If I had more time to work on this project, I would do the following:

  • Conduct 4-5 usability test sessions with the client’s customers to check whether the designs are easy to use

  • Complete A/B testing to determine whether the redesign resulted in increased orders
