“I need to create custom product pages on the app store to promote my app."
Owner of WalknTours App
Summary
The owner of the walking tour app, WalknTours, wanted to refresh his app's screenshots for the App Store and Google Play Store to better promote its unique features. He requested three sets of screenshots. The first set targets a general audience and showcases the app's functionalities, like self-guided tours, access to tours in over 70 cities, and various tour types. The second and third sets are custom product pages designed for specific demographics in particular locations: Santa Fe and Charleston.

Competitive Analysis
I created a competitive analysis to better understand how the app’s competitors, specifically other walking tour apps, displayed their app’s unique features. I analyzed their app screenshots to determine a common layout, visual hierarchy, font, and imagery used.
Competitive Analysis
As a result, my main takeaways from my competitive analysis are the following:
Use a compelling background image
Place a dark overlay around the text to make it legible and simple to read
Place important text in the upper portion of the screen to enhance scannability
Reveal the app’s high rating on the first screen
Showcase social proof to create more trust
Make certain elements on the phone screen show depth and appear larger to show the app’s key feature
Alternate between background image and color to show variation
Create a grid layout to ensure there is sufficient padding around the text elements.
General Set of App Screenshots
After creating a competitive analysis, I analyzed Apple’s app screenshot requirements to ensure I created the correct size for each set of iPhone devices. Also, I made sure that the app highlighted its competitors’ features, along with unique features that made this app stand out. Here are the general app screenshots I designed.

Feedback from WalknTours
“These are fantastic! For the reviews, I have internal reviews that I have permission to use.”

Custom App Screenshots
After receiving the approval of the WalknTours owner for the general app screenshots and inserting the owner’s internal reviews, I started working on the Charleston and Santa Fe custom product pages. I maintained consistent branding to ensure a cohesive appearance across all screenshots. For each set of screenshots, I adjusted the background imagery and user interface to match each city.

App Store Compliance
To ensure the screenshots met the App Store size requirements, I designed them for various iPhone sizes, ranging from the largest 6.7-inch display to the earlier 3.5-inch models. This approach aimed to provide a seamless upload experience for the WalknTours owner.

Google Play Store App Screenshots
After designing the app screenshots for different iPhone sizes, I then created the Google Play Store app screenshots. This involved replacing the iPhone mockups with Android mockups. The Google Play requires only one device screen size (1080 x 1920 pixels) and a maximum of eight screenshots. I created ten screenshots to allow him to choose the ones he prefers. Below are examples of the Android mockups in the app screenshots.

Designing the custom product pages for WalknTours was a wonderful experience that allowed me to refine my visual design and graphic design skills. The client is very happy with their screenshots and is in the process of uploading them into the app store. Thank you for reading!
